Las Vegas, NV. Gaming Arts joins the entire MERKUR GROUP in mourning the passing of Paul Gauselmann, founder and longtime leader of the MERKUR GROUP, who passed away on August 21, 2026, at the age of 91.
Over the course of an extraordinary career spanning nearly seven decades, Paul Gauselmann transformed what began as a one-man business into an international organization employing more than 15,000 people around the world. His entrepreneurial vision, determination, and passion for innovation left an indelible mark not only on the company he founded, but on the gaming industry as a whole.
His legacy reaches far beyond business. Paul Gauselmann believed deeply in treating people with respect and in giving back to the communities that helped make his success possible. Throughout his life, he supported numerous initiatives involving education, healthcare, public safety, sports, culture, and community development.
For Gaming Arts, his legacy has particular meaning. Our company became part of the MERKUR GROUP in 2025 as MERKUR began an important new chapter in the United States. We are proud to carry forward, here in North America, a small part of the entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to innovation that Paul Gauselmann established more than six decades ago.
In recognition of his passing, the flags at Gaming Arts' Las Vegas headquarters have been lowered to half-staff.
We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Karin, his family, his friends, and our colleagues throughout the MERKUR GROUP.
Paul Gauselmann built something designed to endure. Gaming Arts is honored to be part of that legacy.
